HABSMUN 2017 Executive Team

Richard Matheson

Secretary-General

Richard is in his 12th and final year at HABS. Having participated in numerous MUN conferences, he has found MUN an incredibly rewarding activity, developing his oratory and debating skills, as well as giving him an interesting insight into the difficulties that are presented when trying to solve the problems of today. Outside of MUN, Richard studies Philosophy, English Literature and Spanish at A-Level, hoping to read Law at university, and is also a House Captain. Richard greatly enjoyed his role as chair of the Political 2 committee at HABSMUN 2016 and cannot wait for what he is sure will be an unforgettable last MUN conference.

Zak Wagman

Secretary-General

Zak is currently in his last year at HABS, studying History, Politics and Spanish, hoping to read History at university. MUN and Debating have long been a passion of Zak’s, and he has been a fixture at HABSMUN for a number of years. He most enjoys the aspects of debate, compromise and negotiation, as well as meeting new people. Last year, Zak was President of the Security Council at HABSMUN. Away from MUN, Zak is School Vice-Captain, served as Debating Vice-Captain and served two years as a Youth MP. He looks forward to welcoming you to an exciting, dynamic and fruitful conference.

James Caplan

President of the General Assembly

James is currently studying Economics, Maths and History in his final year at HABS, hoping to study Economics and History at university. What drew James to MUN was the relevance that pressing issues to be debated at HABSMUN have today. It is with this outlook that the rigorous debates most enthuse him. Beyond MUN, James is Debating Captain and Head of the School Council. He cannot wait for HABSMUN 2017, which will be his final conference.

Abbas Kermalli

President of the General Assembly

Abbas is a student in the Lower Sixth at HABS studying Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Politics at AS level with a view to studying Medicine. In addition to his political interests, through MUN he has developed a greater awareness of human rights, which led him to become involved in charities such as UNICEF, to ensure children have equal rights to education. Outside of MUN Abbas is Chairman of the Mencap Committee and enjoys playing hockey. He looks forward to meeting you all at HABSMUN 2017.

Theo Lewy

President of the General Assembly

Theo has been at HABS for 12 years and is now in his final year. Studying Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Further Maths, MUN has allowed him to keep his interests broad, creating appreciation for political topics that he would not have been introduced to otherwise. He enjoys the opportunity to argue a case with others, and finds MUN rewarding in helping him develop his public speaking skills. Outside of MUN, Theo is Chairman of the school’s Science Society, Vice-Captain of Debating and one of the Directors of the School Council. Having attended HABSMUN many times as a delegate, he looks forward to helping to make the conference the best one yet.

Rohan Virani

President of the General Assembly

Rohan is currently studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics as a student in the Upper Sixth at HABS. His MUN career has spanned over five years, with HABSMUN 2017 being his 8th and final conference. The opportunity to engage in intellectual and constructive debate at conferences has developed his appreciation of global affairs and need to compromise. Demonstrating teamwork, leadership and innovation are in his opinion, three fundamental characteristics for any enjoyable and productive conference. Outside of MUN, he is Vice House Captain as well as being involved in several musical groups, both jazz and classical. He looks forward to an exciting conference full of fruitful debate.

Rishi Hindocha

Head of IT Operations

Rishi is Head of IT Operations at HABSMUN this year. Having managed technology and audio-visual at a wide range of events for the school over the last few years, he has a lot of experience behind him for this role. He has a strong interest in technology and has been programming for the last four years. Rishi is in charge of all of the front-end and back-end systems at the conference including the website, approvals panel, MyHABSMUN and delegate mobile app as well as everything AV related such as the microphones and displays. For A-level he is taking Maths, Further Maths, Physics and History and is hoping to study Computer Science at university.

Niraj Doshi

Head of Reprographics

Niraj is the Head of Reprographics for HABSMUN this year. The organisational and teamwork skills that he has gleaned from his work with various youth organisations and NHS England should ensure that HABSMUN runs smoothly. Niraj studies Chemistry, Biology and Theology, and hopes to pursue a career in medicine.

Sai Mehta

Head of Secretariat

Sai first got involved with MUN six years ago and, having attended a range of conferences, applied for Deputy Head of Secretariat in 2015 for a chance to get involved with HABSMUN. The opportunity to help run the conference, having previously been a delegate, was fantastic and he found it a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Sai’s interests lie in a range of activities from hockey to charity work and heading the HABS Amnesty international Society. The opportunity to be Head of Secretariat for HABSMUN 2015, allows him to be an important part of an extracurricular activity he has enjoyed for the last 6 years, and he hopes he can make the conference more professional and successful than ever before.

Alex Astruc

Head of Press

Alex is an Upper Sixth student who has a passion for writing and journalism. This will be Alex's third year as a part of the press team at HABSMUN and he has primarily enjoyed taking the photos for Le Munde throughout his time as well as writing. This year however, he will take an editorial role, aided by a superb team of writers. Whilst Alex enjoys debating, he finds himself drawn to the prospect of being able to report on all aspects of HABSMUN and spreading the news to all. Alex looks forward to seeing you all at HABSMUN this year.

Daniel Hails

Head of Internal MUN

Daniel is in final year at HABS. Having participated in 6 MUN conferences - including being in the Organisational Team for 3 years of HABSMUN. He began with the AV and Technical Team before moving on to become an avid public speaker in MUN conferences, in EYP and in a business he runs on the side. This year he will be taking on the role of ensuring delegate needs in conferences are not just met but surpassed. Outside of MUN, Daniel studies Philosophy, Further Maths and Physics at A-Level and is the Chairman of Computing Society, plays waterpolo and runs a business. Daniel cannot wait for what he is sure will be an unforgettable last MUN conference.
