What is MUN?
MUN (Model United Nations) is a simulation of the real United Nations. A group of students from the same school band together to represent a country, or 'delegation', where individual students are 'delegates'.
The debate is conducted within two sets of bodies: the General Assembly and the Committees. The committees are usually composed of one delegate per delegation, so they are much smaller than the General Assembly. They focus on one particular group of issues, such as human rights or disarmament. The exception is the Security Council; here, there are only 15 countries represented and almost any topic could come up. The most common are those relating to international peace and security.
How do I register for the conference?
To register for the conference, advisors must click here and complete the Microsoft Form on behalf of their students. Please ensure all required fields are filled in accurately to confirm each participant’s place.
How much does it cost to attend?
The cost is £70 per delegate or guest chair. This includes full access to all conference sessions and three meals throughout the event. However, hotels have to be booked separately.
Do you provide accomodation?
We are not able to provide accommodation for any visitors. However, you can find a list of nearby hotels in our transport guide and accomodation guide.
What age of pupils is your conference aimed at?
HabsMUN is open to all high school delegates aged 11-18, regardless of experience.
Can you enter without a school?
Unfortunately, all participants must register as part of a school delegation, which must include at least one school advisor for supervision. If you are interested in attending, we encourage you to speak with your school about forming a delegation.
What size is a delegation and what is the maximum number of delegations per school?
Delegations must comprise a minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 8. Schools can apply for as many delegations as they want, depending on space available in the conference.
What is the dress code?
Delegates are expected to wear formal business attire, as is customary at most MUN conferences. Speakers should have their jackets on when speaking. Delegates are not permitted to dress in the attire of their delegation, although small pin badges are allowed.
Do you accept international delegations?
We warmly welcome all delegates, both national and international. Please note that any additional travel costs incurred due to international or long-distance travel are the responsibility of the attending delegation. We are happy to provide an invitation letter if required for purpose of a visa.
Are there any awards?
HabsMUN presents three individual awards in each committee: Best Delegate, Distinguished Delegate and Highly Commended Delegate. Additionally, the prestigious conference-wide Best Delegation, Distinguished Delegation and Highly Commended Delegation are given to the delegations that demonstrates the highest overall performance throughout the event.
How can I apply to be a chair?
Details regarding chair applications will be provided closer to the conference date.
What should I bring with me to the conference?
As HabsMUN is a paperless conference, we highly recommend bringing a laptop or tablet to access resolutions and other documents. We also suggest bringing a bottle of water for your convenience. Meals will be provided as follows: dinner on Friday, lunch on Saturday, and lunch on Sunday – there is no need to bring your own food. There is also an on-site tuck shop, so we recommend bringing a credit card if you would like to purchase any snacks.
Where can I find information on how to write resolutions and prepare for the conference?
To help you prepare for the conference, we offer a wide range of resources available in the How to MUN section of our website. These include comprehensive guides on resolution writing, regular procedure, and special procedure, all designed to support delegates of all experience levels. You’ll also find some model resolutions, which serve as useful templates to help you format and structure your own effectively. Whether you're new to MUN or a seasoned delegate, these materials are there to ensure you feel confident and well-prepared.
